Aichkirchen Parish Church
The parish church of Aichkirchen stands in the village of Aichkirchen in Upper Austria’s Wels-Land district. It is dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul and belongs to the Gaspoltshofen deanery in the Diocese of Linz. The church and its surrounding cemetery are protected monuments. The present building dates from the late Gothic period and was first recorded in 1136. Its single nave has three and a half bays with a net-ribbed vault whose pattern shifts into opposing triangular sections. The narrower two-bay choir ends in a three-sided apse and is also vaulted in net ribs. A three-bay west gallery carries a cross-ribbed vault, while the south door, from the early 16th century, has a Gothic porch. A late Baroque bell tower rises above the western gable. Inside, the furnishings are neo-Gothic, yet the high altar’s late Gothic Madonna statue comes from the late 15th century. The choir holds statues of Peter, Paul, Wolfgang and Leopold, carved around 1694. A Baroque group of figures represents the Agony in the Garden, completing the church’s furnishings.
