Pfarrkirche Tristach

The Catholic parish church of St Lawrence stands at the southern edge of Tristach village in the Lienz district of East Tirol. Built for the Diocese of Innsbruck, it is protected as a listed monument. A steep roof covers the building, which combines a classical nave with a Gothic choir and tower. The church’s history reaches back to at least the 11th century. A Romanesque chapel existed by 1050–1065, and a Gothic rebuilding was finished in 1485. In 1803–1806 Anton Mutschlechner the Elder designed the present nave, completed in 1810. The interior paintings of 1805 are by Christoph Brandstätter, showing the martyrdom of St Lawrence and the Four Fathers of the Church. Outside, the churchyard wall encloses a cemetery with a modern chapel by Rudolf Stotter. Inside, the single nave has a flat dome on pilasters with garlands and a cornice. The round-arched chancel holds a Last Supper above the high altar of 1844, framed by statues of Saints Ingenius and Albuin.
