Rippetegg

Rippetegg is a 2,126-metre peak in the Schladminger Tauern, part of the Niedere Tauern range in the Austrian Alps. It stands on the border between Styria and Salzburg, its summit marking the western edge of the state line. Nearby, the Schober and Gasselhöhe peaks form the northern edge of the Kalkspitzen group. This group stretches south from the main ridge of the Schladminger Alps, linking several limestone summits. The mountain is reached from the Reiteralm, a base reached by cable car or toll road from Preunegg. The direct route climbs the east slope of Gasselhöhe, passes the Gasselseen lakes, then crosses the Obersee before ascending steeply to the summit. Walkers allow about two and a half hours for the climb. A longer circuit adds the Gasselhöhe ridge, visits the Obersee again, then returns via the Reiteralm and the Gasselseen lakes, taking four and a half to five hours. Three alpine huts serve walkers in the area: Reiteralmhütte, Gasselhöh-Hütte and Eiskarhütte. These provide food and shelter on the high trails. The route offers wide views across the Schladminger Tauern and down into the valleys of Styria and Salzburg. The limestone peaks and alpine lakes give the walk a varied and scenic character.
