Eilean Mullagrach

Eilean Mullagrach is a small island in the Summer Isles off the northwest coast of Scotland. It lies in the Highland council area, 800 kilometres northwest of London. The island covers 39 hectares and rises to 46 metres at its highest point. It is the most northerly of the Summer Isles. A narrow landing point has metal ladders for small boats. A single cabin stands near the shore. The island is recognised for its seabird colonies. Kittiwakes nest on the cliffs in spring and summer. Bonxies, or great skuas, breed on the moorland slopes. Shags and fulmars also gather along the rocky coast. These birds make the island an important site for wildlife. Visitors find open grassland dotted with heather and thrift. The cabin provides basic shelter for those who land. Views stretch across the Summer Isles to the mainland hills. The quiet shores offer a place to watch seals and passing dolphins.
