ZOOM Kindermuseum

The ZOOM Kindermuseum stands in the MuseumsQuartier in Neubau, the seventh district of Vienna. It occupies a bright space designed for children to explore art, science and everyday culture through play. The museum opened in 1994 under Claudia Haas as Austria’s first children’s museum, moving to its current location in 2001. The museum’s programme includes large interactive exhibitions that change twice a year. There is a dedicated studio for drawing workshops, a stop-motion film studio and a small-child area called Zoom Ozean. Since 2003 the museum has hosted children’s lectures by scientists such as Anton Zeilinger and Helga Kromp-Kolb. Past exhibitions have featured artists like Gelitin and Hans Schabus, blending creative learning with hands-on discovery. Visitors find rooms filled with colourful installations and materials meant to be touched and used. The workshops encourage children to build, draw, film and experiment. The space is arranged so that families can move between activities without crowding. Outside, the MuseumsQuartier’s open plazas and cafés provide places to rest.
