Sgùrr Breac

Sgùrr Breac is a 999-metre Munro in the Fannich mountains of the Scottish Highlands. Its Gaelic name means ‘spotted peak’. The mountain stands about fifty kilometres north-west of Inverness, making it the third-highest summit in the Fannich group. It is linked to the nearby A’ Chailleach by a broad col at roughly 550 metres. The north-east face shows steep crags, while the southern slopes drop more gently towards Loch Fannich. Climbers often combine Sgùrr Breac with A’ Chailleach because they share the same col. The usual start is a track branching from the A832 west of Braemore Junction near Loch a’ Bhraoin. From the loch’s east end the shortest route follows the long Druim Rèidh ridge to the lower Toman Còinnich top, then crosses a second col to the main summit marked by a cairn. A longer alternative crosses the col between Sgùrr nan Clach Geala and Sgùrr Breac before climbing the south-east ridge. The summit of Sgùrr Breac offers wide views across the Fannich range and beyond. The grassy slopes of Coire Saobhaidhe lie on the southern side, while Coire Breac falls northwards to the Allt Breabaig burn. The long northern ridge of Toman Còinnich curves away towards the neighbouring A’ Chailleach. Walkers on the Druim Rèidh ridge pass the minor top before reaching the final climb to the summit.
