Waddon Marsh

Waddon Marsh is a tram stop in the London Borough of Croydon, part of the Tramlink network. It lies between Waddon and Croydon, close to the commercial areas along the Purley Way. A former railway station once stood about 100 metres north, but only an access path with red NSE streetlamps remains. The stop is overlooked by the large gasometer of Croydon Gas Works. London Buses routes 289, 439 and S4 stop nearby. Free transfers between trams and buses are allowed within an hour under Transport for London’s Hopper fare. Trams run every ten minutes off-peak in both directions. Six services per hour head to Beckenham Junction and Wimbledon, while another six go to Elmers End and Wimbledon. The trams are modern Bombardier CR4000 and Stadler Variobahn models with low floors. These frequent, reliable connections make the stop useful for local travel. The area is mainly commercial, with retail parks and light industry nearby. Visitors find a simple, functional transport hub with no grand architecture. The surviving railway relic is the red-painted access path, a quiet reminder of the past. The gasometer dominates the skyline, a landmark of Croydon’s industrial heritage. Buses provide onward links across south London. The stop itself is unremarkable but serves as a practical gateway to the wider area.
