Eiblgupf

Eiblgupf is a mountain peak in Upper Austria, part of the Höllengebirge range. It stands 1 813 metres above sea level, rising 101 metres above the surrounding terrain. The mountain’s broad base stretches 2.1 kilometres wide. To the south the slopes are steep and rocky, while to the north they roll in gentle grassy hummocks. Ebensee, the nearest town, lies 7.8 kilometres east of the summit. The mountain sits in a forested landscape where mixed woodland covers most of the lower slopes. Above the tree line the ground is open and rocky, offering wide views across the Alps. The area is lightly populated, with only 65 people living in each square kilometre of the surrounding valleys. Paths wind through the woods and over the open ground, leading walkers to the summit. At the top visitors find a simple summit cross marking the highest point. The view stretches from the Dachstein glacier in the west to the Traunstein in the east. On clear days the lakes of the Salzkammergut glimmer below. The contrast between the dark forests and the bright limestone crags makes the scene striking. The climb rewards effort with quiet and sweeping scenery.
