Langbathseen

The Langbathseen are two mountain lakes in the Salzkammergut region, set within the municipality of Ebensee on the Traunsee. They lie in a long valley basin between the limestone massif of the Höllengebirge and a flysch ridge. The water in both lakes is exceptionally clear and meets drinking-water standards. The lakes draw walkers and riders to their shores. A circular trail circles the water, while the 828 Schafluckensteig climbs past the Brunnkogel to the Hochleckenhaus and continues over the Lueg to the Großalm inn. The 832 trail heads toward the Feuerkogel and the Hochsteinalm, with options to cross to Traunkirchen or Neukirchen on the Attersee. Leopold Gschwendtner wrote about the area in 1919, describing his excursions around the Langbathseen in a local natural-science journal. Today the lakes remain a quiet retreat where the flysch ridges and clear water create a peaceful highland scene.
