Wasserburg Daugendorf

The Wasserburg Daugendorf, also known as Weber’s Burschel, once stood on a small hill south of the church in Daugendorf, a district of Riedlingen. The site sits at 532 metres above sea level on a gentle slope, surrounded by the quiet landscape of the Biberach district. Built in the late 14th century, the castle was mentioned in records when it was destroyed in 1385. The Lords of Daugendorf and the Counts of Veringen once owned the fortress, which controlled the area for generations. Little remains of the original structure today. Only a low mound, four to five metres high, survives on the hillside. The mound measures about twenty-two by fifteen metres across, its grassy surface marking where the tower once rose. Archaeologists recognise it as the last trace of a once-imposing water castle. The site offers a quiet reminder of medieval power in a rural setting. Visitors find a simple grassy mound beside the church in Daugendorf. The hill is easy to reach on foot from the village centre. A low fence surrounds the small area, protecting the fragile remains. From the top, views stretch across the rolling countryside of Oberschwaben. The site stands as a modest but tangible link to the region’s past.
