Torabhaig

Torabhaig is a Scotch whisky distillery in Teangue on the Isle of Skye. It stands in a converted farm steading, blending old stone walls with modern design by architects Simpson and Brown. The distillery opened in 2017 after work began in 2014 on a project first approved in 2002. It is the second licensed distillery on Skye, following Talisker’s establishment in the 19th century. A baby goat named Goaty became its mascot in 2019. In 2021, two bottles of its first whisky were auctioned for charity. The distillery is worth the journey for its traditional methods and growing reputation. It produces 500,000 litres of whisky each year in wooden washbacks and copper stills. Its first whisky, the Legacy Series 2017, went on sale in 2021. The Allt Gleann single malt, released later that year, is named after a nearby burn and bottled at 46% abv. Some of its whisky was chosen for preservation by the National Museum of Scotland in 2022. The whiskies are known for their peaty character. Visitors find a modern visitor centre inside the old farm buildings. They see the production area with its wooden washbacks and copper stills. The Allt Gleann single malt is available to taste and buy. The distillery’s setting on Skye offers views of the surrounding hills and coastline. Goaty the goat often appears near the entrance. The Legacy Series whiskies provide a chance to sample the distillery’s early work.
