Pittyvaich distillery

Pittyvaich distillery was a Speyside single malt Scotch whisky distillery in Dufftown, Moray. It stood beside the Dufftown Distillery and operated for less than two decades. Built in 1974 by Arthur Bell & Sons, it was among the youngest distilleries in Scotland. The site was chosen to supply malt whisky for blends. After seventeen years it closed in 1993 and was demolished in 2002. Although short-lived, Pittyvaich left its mark on the whisky world. It produced malt for blends before releasing its first official single malt in 1991. Independent bottlers such as Signatory Vintage and Cadenhead’s had already released single malt Pittyvaich before then. These early bottlings are now sought after by collectors. The distillery never became large, yet its whisky gained recognition. Visitors today will find no buildings left on the site. The ground where stills once stood is now grass and gravel. Dufftown Distillery remains nearby, offering tours and tastings. The surrounding Speyside landscape of rolling hills and barley fields is unchanged. The whisky’s legacy lives on in rare bottles, not in stone.
