Kom(m)ödchen
The Kom(m)ödchen is a cabaret stage in Düsseldorf. It stands in the city centre, where the theatre moved in 1967. The building has housed political and literary satire since the late 1940s. The founders, Kay and Lore Lorentz, shaped its early programmes. Their names now mark the square outside, called Kay-und-Lore-Lorentz-Platz. The theatre began in 1947 with the programme Positiv dagegen. The first cast included Werner Vielhaber, Bernd Nesselhut and Hans Walter Clasen. Hanne Wieder joined in the first year. Later, well-known figures such as Harald Schmidt and Thomas Freitag became part of the ensemble. The journalist Thaddäus Troll wrote scripts in the early 1950s. Visitors find a small, intimate stage with modern lighting and sound. The interior keeps the focus on sharp dialogue and topical jokes. The square outside offers a quiet place to wait before the show. A nearby school bears Lore Lorentz’s name, linking the place to its history. The cabaret continues to stage new programmes every season.
