Parochial House Ulrichsberg

The Kulturhaus Ulrichsberg sits in the heart of Ulrichsberg’s market square, a two-storey building with a gabled roof and stone-and-plaster façade. Its oldest part dates to 1660, when it served as the parish priest’s house. In 1767 a small annexe, the Kaplanstöckl, was added for the curate. From 1877 the building became the village hall, then stood empty before being restored in 1991–92. Since 1992 it has housed the local museum. Inside, the ground floor still shows the original cross-ribbed vaults while the upper floor carries a delicate 18th-century stucco ceiling. A wrought-iron fire door and a restored tie-beam from the renovation mark the craftsmanship of the work. Two round-arched gateways lead into the courtyard under cross-vaulted passages. The exterior’s rectangular doorway carries a dated pediment and a small fanlight. The museum’s Heimatstube recreates a 19th-century farm parlour with period furniture. One room honours Adalbert Stifter, who was born nearby in Oberplan, and another remembers Pauline Bayer, the village poet. Glassware from the old forest glasshouses of Oberschwarzenberg and Sonnenwald fills another case. A permanent display shows tools and crafts once common in the Mühlviertel uplands.
