Parochial House Ulrichsberg

The Ulrichsberg rectory stands in the market square of Ulrichsberg, a village in the upper Mühlviertel region of Upper Austria. Built in 1873, it is a two-storey building topped by a hipped roof. The plastered façade shows early historicist styling, with a rusticated ground floor and corner pilasters. A segmental-arched gateway forms the central axis, surmounted by a pair of windows. A row of crenellations runs beneath the eaves, marking the transition to the roof. Its listed status reflects the building’s architectural importance within the district. The Dehio survey of 2003 recognises the rectory as a key example of its period and style. The symmetrical composition and restrained detailing set it apart from simpler farmhouses nearby. The design draws on classical motifs while remaining practical for its original purpose. Inside, the ground floor contains the former parish offices and storage rooms. Upstairs, living quarters were arranged around a central corridor. The original joinery survives in doors and window frames. The plain interior contrasts with the more elaborate exterior, giving a sense of quiet functionality. Views from the upper windows look across the village roofs towards the surrounding countryside.
