Shinfield Studios

Shinfield Studios is a film and television studio on the Thames Valley Science Park near Shinfield in Berkshire. It sits on land owned by the University of Reading, close to the M4 motorway and about 35 miles from central London. The site is part of a growing science park that already hosts parts of the British Museum and is building new facilities for the Natural History Museum. Heathrow Airport is half an hour away by car and an hour by train. Reading Buses route Leopard 3 stops right at the studios, making the complex easy to reach. The studios opened in spring 2024 after a rapid construction programme managed by Curo Construction and LIFE Build. They were planned in phases so filming could continue while work progressed. Four temporary stages became permanent and are now in regular use. Shinfield Studios has worked with major partners including Netflix, Lucasfilm and Sony. It also supports local training through the Screen Berkshire programme run with the University of Reading and the British Film Institute. Inside the nearly 1.8 million square foot site there are 18 climate-controlled soundstages, two of which are among the largest in the UK at 41,000 square feet each. A nine-acre backlot provides outdoor filming space, while workshops and offices cover 130,000 square feet. The studios have already hosted productions such as Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and The Acolyte, with many more films and television series scheduled through 2027.
