Mühlenmuseum Moisburg
The Mühlenmuseum Moisburg sits in the old Amtswassermühle beside the river Este in Moisburg, a village in Lower Saxony. The building’s core dates from 1723, though the site was first recorded in 1379. The mill still grinds grain for local bakeries, driven by one of its original three water wheels. It now belongs to the Kiekeberg Open-Air Museum and hosts both permanent and temporary exhibitions on regional milling history. The museum brings the miller’s life into focus. Visitors see the living quarters and workshop as they were in the 1930s, when the miller’s family lived above the machinery. Exhibits include a 1910 grain cleaner and seed treater, while upstairs a display explains the different types of mills. A café and small shop occupy the former guest room, adding to the atmosphere. Sunday milling days run from mid-April to mid-October, when the miller demonstrates the journey from grain to flour. The museum also stages a yearly crafts market, milling festivals, and special events such as Low German concerts and children’s paper-making workshops.
