Maria-Theresien-Schlössel

The Maria-Theresien-Schlössel is a single-storey Baroque country house on Gersthofer Straße in Währing, the 18th district of Vienna. Built in the 18th century, it once served as a hunting lodge for Empress Maria Theresia. Today the building houses a small museum run by Erste Bank AG. The museum occupies part of the remodeled complex at numbers 141–145, where a new cash hall was added to the original structure. Inside the cash hall stands a relocated Delfinbrunnen from the main branch on the Graben. Upstairs a small hall displays illusionist wall paintings. Visitors find a quiet corner of 18th-century elegance preserved within the modern banking quarter. The Delfinbrunnen’s playful figures contrast with the sober cash hall, while the painted ceiling above shows elaborate trompe-l’œil effects. The whole site remains owned by Lammel + Stix Immobilien Gruppe and is leased to Erste Group Bank AG.
