Doune Hill

Doune Hill rises to 734 metres in the foothills of the Grampian Mountains. It stands near the village of Luss in Argyll and Bute, on the western shore of Loch Lomond. The hill is the highest point of the Luss Hills, a southern outlier of the Grampians. It sits on the edge of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. The long grassy ridge attracts hillwalkers who come for its open views. The summit offers wide views across Loch Lomond and the islands within it. On clear days the peaks of the Trossachs can be seen to the east. The ridge provides a straightforward climb with few technical challenges. Its grassy slopes contrast with the steeper crags of nearby peaks. The route often starts from the village of Luss. The summit area is marked by a small cairn built by walkers. The ridge continues north and south, allowing longer circuits. The surrounding hills form a green bowl around Loch Lomond. The park’s varied landscape includes woodlands and open moorland. The hill’s modest height makes it accessible to many walkers.
