Schloss Penzing

Schloss Penzing stands beside a small lake in the Babensham district of Bavaria. The present building is a late-medieval core remodelled in the 19th century. A four-storey main block with stepped gables and a slate roof is joined to a western wing and an octagonal gate tower topped by a pyramid roof. The site has passed through many noble and civic hands since the 13th century. Magnus the Rider appears as the first recorded owner in 1428, and the Fröschl family built the Gothic chapel in 1483. Later owners included the Lodron and Arco counts, and in the 19th century the Mooshammer professors restored the estate’s judicial status. Visitors today see a multi-wing complex arranged around a courtyard. The late-medieval chapel, with its open bellcote, still rings its bells at eight each evening in summer. Cultural events such as Christmas markets and flea markets enliven the grounds. The surrounding countryside offers quiet walks beside the lake and through the nearby fields.
