Schloss Weikertsham
Schloss Weikertsham stands on the eastern bank of the Inn river in the Weikertsham district of Wasserburg am Inn. The small brick building rises three storeys above a nearly square footprint of just over eight metres. A steep tiled roof shelters two attic floors and a tiny barrel-vaulted cellar. The main façade faces south with four window bays, while the east side now holds the main entrance after changes in the 19th century. The building began as a 16th-century patrician residence and later passed through noble and merchant families. Adam Reiter and his wife Maria Gumpeltsheimer added elaborate Renaissance frescoes in the early 17th century, marked by their alliance coat of arms. After centuries of farming use and decline, Martina Pfeiffer rescued the structure in 1991 and supervised a full restoration completed in 1993. The project reused original doors, hinges and even the painted façades, earning the Hypo-Kulturpreis for heritage work in 1994. Today the restored castle serves as a private home and a bed-and-breakfast. Rooms display antique furniture from France and England, and a second-floor hall features Renaissance panelling and a coffered ceiling restored by Armin Goettler. Recent exhibitions have featured artists such as Willy Reichert, Wolfgang Sümmermann, Stefanie H. Friedrich and Imke Reinecke. The nearby Wasserburg lookout tower offers views across the Inn valley to complement the visit.
