Brandstetterkogel

The Brandstetterkogel rises 569 metres above sea level as the highest point on the Neustadtler Platte, a broad plateau near Neustadtl an der Donau in the Strudengau region of Lower Austria. Its rounded summit is formed from Weinsberger Granit, part of the South Bohemian Pluton, and sits within the Strudengau and surroundings landscape protection area. Walkers reach the Viktoria-Adelheid-Schutzhütte at 532 metres on one of the peaks; this refuge marks the end of the Matrassteig trail and lies on the Danube Heights long-distance path from Passau to Ybbs. A second peak, the Gipfelstein at 519 metres, carries an observation platform and a peace cross with wide views over the surrounding countryside.
