Hungerburg Weierweiler

Burg Weierweiler stands in the Saarland near the village of Weierweiler, on a small hill above a stream. It was built in the 11th or 12th century by the Archbishopric of Trier and mentioned in records in 1332. The castle belonged to the lords of Dagstuhl, who appointed a bailiff to oversee it. Over time the buildings fell into ruin, leaving only the earthen mound and a few foundations. The site is now partly wooded and lies behind a modern farmhouse with an inn run by the Brix-Kratz family. Archaeologists have found traces of the old stone tower and surrounding walls. Local historians like Joachim Conrad and Stefan Flesch have studied the remains in detail. Visitors can walk around the mound and see the low walls still visible among the trees. From the mound there are views across the surrounding countryside. The inn serves food and drink, making it a quiet place to rest after exploring. The site is small but tells the story of a medieval castle and its people. It offers a glimpse of life on the edge of the Saarland centuries ago.
