Vormacherberg

The Vormacherberg rises to 1 119 m in the Seckauer Tauern, a range of the Niedere Tauern in Styria. It stands on the edge of Fohnsdorf municipality, its summit marking the boundary between the Kumpitz and Dietersdorf cadastral areas. East of the summit the land falls steeply into the Dietersdorfer Graben. A local mostschenke offers cider and snacks a short walk from the top. The mountain is a modest but rewarding objective on the Eisenwurzenweg, the long-distance trail that carries the number 08 across Austria. The route passes just below the summit on its way to the Fohnsdorfer Hütte and the Gaaler Höhe. Hikers gain steady height through mixed forest and open alpine pastures before reaching the open ridge. From the summit visitors look north across the Mur valley to the Tamsweg plateau and south to the higher peaks of the Seckauer Tauern. The broad ridge offers space for a rest in the sun, and the mostschenke at the foot of the slope provides a final drink before the descent.
