John Lennon Peace Monument

The John Lennon Peace Monument stands on Liverpool’s waterfront near ACC Liverpool at Kings Dock. It is an 18-foot hand-painted metal sculpture topped with a white glass feather. The artwork was first unveiled in Chavasse Park before being moved to its current public space. The monument honours John Lennon’s life and his lifelong commitment to peace. It was created by 19-year-old American artist Lauren Voiers from her original painting. Julian and Cynthia Lennon unveiled the sculpture on 9 October 2010, marking what would have been Lennon’s 70th birthday. The white feather symbolises a message of reassurance that Julian Lennon says his father once described. The Global Peace Initiative chose Liverpool as the home for this monument, recognising Lennon’s global influence. Visitors find a place to gather and reflect on Lennon’s message of peace. The sculpture’s design incorporates music, reflecting Lennon’s career and his power to bring people together. Fans have held vigils at the monument, including a candlelit gathering on the 30th anniversary of his death. The setting by the waterfront makes it a focal point for remembrance and contemplation.
