Echo Arena Liverpool

Liverpool Arena stands in the city centre beside the docks, forming part of the ACC Liverpool complex. The arena hosts live music, comedy and sport for a regional population of 2.5 million and over 6.6 million across the North West. It was designed by Wilkinson Eyre architects and Sport Concepts, with a flexible floor that can seat 7,513 or hold 11,000 for standing events. The building includes six dressing rooms, five team locker rooms and two promoter offices, with vehicles up to 38 tonnes able to reach the basement. The complex has a BREEAM rating of ‘very good’ and opened on 12 January 2008 for the Capital of Culture launch show. Since opening, the arena has attracted more than 7 million visitors to over 3,800 events and generated £1.6 billion for the city region. It has hosted the MTV Europe Music Awards, concerts by major artists and the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest on behalf of Ukraine. The arena also stages sporting events including Premier League Darts, the Liverpool International Horse Show and the British Gymnastics Championships. In 2025 it will host the inaugural World Boxing Championships and in 2027 All Elite Wrestling’s Dynasty pay-per-view. Visitors find a modern venue with permanent seating on three sides and a central floor that can be adapted for different events. The arena’s corporate boxes overlook the action, and the connected Exhibition Centre Liverpool adds further space. Public transport links are strong, with James Street station a short walk away and buses stopping directly outside. The nearby Wapping Tunnel portal recalls the area’s industrial past, and the Kings Dock site offers views across the water. Inside, the building’s design allows quick changes between layouts, making it a flexible home for large gatherings.
