Tagweidkopf

The Tagweidkopf is a 2,408-metre peak in the Lechtaler Alps of Tirol, standing within the Lorea group. It is framed by the Mittleres Kreuzjoch to the north and the Loreakopf to the south. The summit has a broad scree slope on its north-west side, while its western and eastern flanks drop away steeply. The southern face shows moderate rocky slabs. Nearby villages include Mitteregg and Berwang to the north-west and Nassereith to the south-east, with the Loreahütte hut close by. The mountain is reached by route-less scrambles that demand sure-footedness. In winter it can be climbed on a demanding ski tour. One summer route leaves the Loreahütte and follows a marked path north-westwards before turning route-less to the col between the Loreakopf and Tagweidkopf. From there rough slabs lead to the summit, taking about an hour from the hut. Another approach starts from the Östliches Kreuzjoch, follows a short ridge and then crosses the flank of the Mittleres Kreuzjoch to the col. A broken ridge of grade II difficulty leads to the broad scree slope and the top, also taking roughly an hour from the starting point. Visitors find themselves on a broad, stony summit plateau with wide views across the Lechtaler Alps. The steep drops on either side give a sense of exposure, while the gentler southern slabs offer easier scrambling. The Loreahütte below provides a base for the southern route and a place to rest before the final climb. The surrounding peaks of the Lorea group stand out clearly, and the high ridges create a feeling of remoteness despite the nearby villages.
