Largoz

The Largoz, also called Glotzen by locals, is a northern ridge peak in the Tuxer Alps of Tirol. It stands between the Voldertal and Wattental valleys, overlooking the Inn valley. The summit cross sits at 2,214 metres, while the highest point is over 100 metres further south at least 2,220 metres. The peak is not marked on the official Austrian map. Many hikers and ski mountaineers aim for the Largoz because of its views and easy access. Most start from the car park above the Krepperhütte inn on the Großvolderberg at 1,360 metres. From there a trail or forest road leads first to the Largozalm at 1,930 metres, then up to the Glotzenkreuz at 2,092 metres before reaching the summit. The name first appears in writing in 1765 as Largaz, from the Latin word meaning ‘interspersed with larch trees’. In winter the Largoz is a popular ski ascent, and with enough snow a descent all the way to the Inn valley is possible. The same car park serves as the start of a prepared toboggan run that follows forest tracks toward the Largozalm over a drop of about 300 metres. The route offers wide views across the surrounding alpine landscape.
