Weinbaumuseum Stuttgart

The Weinbaumuseum Stuttgart stands in the Uhlbach district of Stuttgart. It occupies a 1907 timber-framed building that once served as the village’s official wine press. Before becoming a museum in 1979, the building housed a fire brigade and storage rooms. The museum traces Stuttgart’s wine culture from Roman times to the present. Twelve themed areas display tools, presses, ancient barrels and artworks that show how vineyards and winemaking have changed. Visitors learn about the 1960s and 1970s land consolidation that reshaped Stuttgart’s steep terraced vineyards into larger parcels. Works by local artist Eugen Häfele capture the region’s wine festivals and daily toil in wood, charcoal and oil. Inside the museum shop visitors can taste wines from nearby growers. The monthly changing list offers reds and whites grown on Stuttgart’s slopes. Outside, the building’s original function as a communal press is still visible in its sturdy beams and wide entrance.
