Broni
Broni is a small town in the Lombardy region of northern Italy. It lies about 45 kilometres south of Milan and 15 kilometres southeast of Pavia. The surrounding countryside is flat, with fields of vines and cereals stretching to the horizon. The town itself has a quiet, orderly feel, with low buildings and a few small squares. A river called the Po flows about ten kilometres to the north, adding to the area’s gentle landscape. The town is known mainly as the birthplace of Cecilia Zandalasini, a professional basketball player who plays in the American WNBA. She began her career in local teams before moving to the Golden State Valkyries. Broni also has a twin-town relationship with Ferrara in Emilia-Romagna, established in 2001. These links give the place a modest but recognisable identity beyond its immediate surroundings. Visitors find a calm place with a few modest sights. The main square has a small church and a few cafés where locals gather. The streets are wide and clean, lined with plane trees that provide shade in summer. Beyond the town, the flat Po Valley offers long, straight roads for cycling or walking. The vineyards nearby belong to the Oltrepò Pavese wine district, where red and white wines are made.
