Monmouth Heritage Trail

The Monmouth Heritage Trail is a walking route that links 24 historic buildings in Monmouth, a town in Wales. The trail was created in 2009 by the Monmouth Civic Society, which chose the buildings and arranged for ceramic blue plaques to be made and fixed to them. Ned Heywood of Chepstow produced the plaques, each with raised English and Welsh text on a blue-glazed background. The plaques give a short account of each building’s importance to the town, from well-known landmarks to lesser-known sites like The Nelson Garden or Monmouth Methodist Church. The trail connects places that include the Monnow Bridge and Shire Hall, both symbols of Monmouth and listed buildings. Other stops are less obvious but equally interesting, such as the Old Baptist Chapel or the Beaufort Arms. Each plaque offers a brief summary of why the building matters, giving walkers a reason to pause and look more closely at the town’s history.
