Ragazer Blanken

The Ragazer Blanken is a subsidiary peak of the Hochblanken in the Damülser Mountains of the Bregenzerwald range. It stands at 2,051 metres above sea level in the municipality of Damüls, Vorarlberg. The summit marked by the cross is 2,051 metres high, while the true summit lies 55 metres east and one metre higher. The north face is a steep, bare rock face, while the south side is served by a chairlift for the Damüls Mellau ski area. The Ragazer Blanken forms part of a roughly ten-kilometre-long ridge that stretches west from the Sünser Spitze to the Klippern in the east. Peaks along this ridge include the Hochblanken, Hohe Licht, Damülser Mittagsspitze, Wannenkopf, Gungern and Klippern. The ridge slopes gently southward toward Damüls, while the northern side features stark, bare rock bands. This northern slope belongs to the Hohe Kugel - Hoher Freschen - Mellental nature reserve. Visitors reach the summit via the Ragaz chairlift, whose mountain station is the highest point in the Damüls Mellau ski area. The south face offers wide views over the Bregenzerwald and the Rhine Valley. The north face presents a dramatic contrast with its sheer rock walls. The ridge provides long-distance hiking routes, including the High Alpine Trail. The contrast between the gentle south slopes and the rugged north face makes the Ragazer Blanken a striking landmark.
