Hübscher Bühel

The Hübscher Bühel stands in the Bregenzerwaldgebirge, a subsidiary summit of the Hochblanken. It reaches 2,032 metres and lies on the borders of Dornbirn, Mellau and Damüls. The blue lake lies about a kilometre away, while the Portlaalpe is roughly 2.6 kilometres distant and the Furkajoch about 3.6 kilometres. The mountain shows grass on its eastern, southern and western flanks, with only a granite survey stone marking the top. The northern side drops steeply into the Mellental. Nearby peaks include the Portlahorn 1,300 metres to the south, the Sünser Spitze 800 metres to the west and the Ragazer Blanken 600 metres to the north-east. Walkers usually start from the Portlaalpe at 1,710 metres or the Freschenhaus at 1,846 metres. The shortest route climbs from the Portlaalpe via the Portlafürkle to the Sünser Joch in about an hour, covering 322 metres of height gain. A longer circuit from Damüls via the Sieben Hügel and Sünser Joch takes five to six hours and gains roughly 620 metres, returning over the Alpe Oberdamüls at 1,667 metres.
