Millburn distillery

Millburn distillery stands in Inverness, a Highland town on the River Ness. It began in 1807 as the Inverness Distillery under Mr Welsh. The name changed to Millburn in 1904 when the Millburn Distillery Company formed. A fire in 1922 damaged the buildings but owners restored production. The site later became part of The Distillers Company and then Scottish Malt Distillers Ltd. Most of the distillery was demolished in 1988 after it closed in 1985. The site is worth the journey for whisky history. Millburn’s whisky was a key part of the Mill Burn vatted malt. The distillery passed through several owners, including Booth’s Distillers and The Distillers Company. A notable moment came when Whitbread opened a Beefeater restaurant in one of the remaining buildings in 1989. A Travel Inn hotel was added soon after. The site remains linked to whisky heritage despite the changes. Visitors find a Beefeater restaurant in one of the old distillery buildings. A Premier Inn hotel occupies part of the site today. The remaining structure still reflects the distillery’s past. The location sits close to Inverness city centre. The River Ness runs nearby, adding to the setting. The area shows how the site has been reused while keeping traces of its whisky history.
