Gençlik Parkı

Gençlik Parkı is a large public park in the centre of Ankara. It covers 27.5 hectares and is bordered by Ulus Square to the north, the Ankara Opera House to the east, sport facilities and the railway station to the south, and a stadium to the west. The land was once marshland before being drained and turned into a park. It opened on 19 May 1943, coinciding with National Youth Day. Early attractions included a main pool, swimming pool, amusement rides, an open-air theatre and walking paths. The park has been restored and now features a cultural centre, a youth centre and a convention hall run by the municipality. There are 43 small kiosks scattered throughout the grounds. Miniature trains were added in 1957 as part of the park’s amusement attractions. Light shows are held on the main pool at night, turning the water into a colourful display. A science museum is also planned for the site. Visitors find wide lawns, tree-lined paths and shaded benches across the park. The main pool remains a central feature, surrounded by kiosks and seating areas. The cultural centre hosts events and performances, while the youth centre provides activities for younger visitors. The nearby opera house and sport hall add to the cultural atmosphere. The park offers a quiet retreat in the middle of a busy city.
