Filialkirche hl. Andreas, Rappersdorf

The small late-Gothic Filialkirche Heiliger Andreas stands in Rappersdorf, a hamlet within the Kärnten village of Mühldorf. First recorded in 1380, the building was later reshaped in the Baroque style, yet beneath the floor archaeologists uncovered traces of an earlier church. A two-bay choir with a three-sided end is joined to a single nave of the same width and height, creating a unified interior space. The church’s furnishings date from the 16th to the 18th centuries. The high altar, dated 1727, is painted blue and gold, its central panel showing the patron saint Andreas, while above is the Annunciation. To the left stands a fragmentary wing altar from about 1500, once housing figures of Saints George and Florian, now replaced by a Madonna. Two Gothic statues of Saints Martin and Roch flank the nave, and the pulpit of the early 18th century is crowned by a figure of Saint Paul. Outside, the polygonal choir is braced by low triangular buttresses and pierced by lancet windows. A Baroque tower with round-headed sound openings rises on the south side, its interior walls bearing a 15th-century fresco of Saint Christopher. Inside, a pointed, chamfered arch leads from nave to choir, where a net-ribbed vault rests on round shafts. The west gallery completes the simple yet harmonious arrangement.
