Burgstall Alling
The Burgstall Alling stands on a tongue of land that slopes westwards above the village of Alling. It overlooks the Starzelbachtal from a height of 560 metres. The site was once the seat of local nobles, but gravel digging has removed much of the southern part. Archaeologists recognise a double ditch system that may date from the early medieval period. Written records first mention Alling in 802. By the 12th century the lords of Alling appear as ministerials of Schäftlarn Abbey. A battle fought nearby in 1422 left few dead but many prisoners. Visitors walk through the churchyard to reach the wooded mound. A small Lourdes grotto marks the highest point. The northern hollow-way is now an asphalt lane leading to the church car park. The steep southern slope drops sharply into the valley.
