Risserkogel

The Risserkogel is a mountain rising to 1 826 m in the Tegernsee Alps, part of the larger Mangfall range. It stands apart from other summits, so the cross at its top gives wide views on clear days. To the east the Kaisergebirge appears, to the south the Grossglockner and Grossvenediger, to the west the Zugspitze, and to the north the city of Munich. The climb needs only sure-footedness, not ropes or climbing, along several marked paths. Routes start from the Hufnagelstube in the Rottach valley, from the Weißen Valepp Alm, from Wildbad Kreuth, from Riedlern, and even from the Wallbergbahn mountain station. In winter skiers and snowshoers follow the sunny slopes of the Ableitenalm from Wildbad Kreuth. Nearby peaks include the Plankenstein at 1 768 m with routes graded from II to X, and the Grubereck to the west. Lakes lie below: the Riederecksee north-east of the Plankenstein and the Röthensteiner See north-west of the Risserkogel.
