River Dorn

The River Dorn is a small tributary in Oxfordshire that flows into the River Glyme. It begins in the limestone uplands north of Chipping Norton and travels southeast through gentle countryside. The river passes villages like Little Tew and Sandford St Martin, where it winds through Sandford Park’s gardens. Further on it runs through Westcott Barton, Middle Barton—where Cockley Brook joins—and Steeple Barton. Finally it meets the Glyme east of Wootton after about 11 kilometres. The Dorn is recognised for its quiet charm and the way it shapes the landscape. It supplies water to Soho Farmhouse’s members club between Little Tew and Stanford St Martin. The river’s course reflects centuries of rural settlement along its banks. Its limestone origins give the water a distinctive clarity. Walkers and naturalists often follow paths beside the Dorn to enjoy its peaceful flow. Visitors find a gentle stream bordered by meadows and wooded strips. Sandford Park’s riverside gardens offer shaded walks and small bridges over the Dorn. In Middle Barton the river widens slightly where Cockley Brook joins. The valley remains largely agricultural, with stone cottages and farm buildings close to the water. From Steeple Barton the path leads toward the Glyme confluence near Wootton.
