Oxfordshire Museum

The Oxfordshire Museum stands in Woodstock, a town on the edge of the Cotswolds. It occupies Fletcher’s House, a large historic building on Park Street opposite the Bear Hotel. The museum covers the county’s local history, art, archaeology, landscape and wildlife. Eleven galleries display these collections, and a coffee shop and garden lie behind the house. A special feature is the Dinosaur Garden, where megalosaur footprints from a nearby quarry are shown. The museum is run by Oxfordshire County Council and holds objects from across the region. In 2025 it raised £10,500 to buy an Iron Age hoard found in Oxfordshire in 2020. Nearby, the Soldiers of Oxfordshire Museum opened in 2014 within the same grounds. In 2021 SOFO ran a seven-week crowdfunding campaign to build a full-size Second World War Anderson Shelter. Visitors walk through Fletcher’s House to reach the eleven galleries. Outside, the garden includes the Dinosaur Garden and benches for rest. The coffee shop serves light meals and drinks. The museum’s setting in Woodstock places it close to the Cotswolds’ rolling hills while remaining in the town centre.
