Tristkopf
The Tristkopf is a 2,361-metre peak in the western Kitzbüheler Alps on the border between Tirol and Salzburg. It sits between the Nadernachjoch pass to the northeast and the Nadernachtal valley to the south. The mountain belongs to the touring area of the Neuen Bamberger Hütte, which stands north of the summit. Two main routes lead up from the valley floor: one starts at the Hotel Ronach on the old Gerlos road and follows the Nadernachtal; the other leaves from the Putzalm and crosses the Ronachgeier before joining the unmarked final section over the Breite Scharte. Climbers often combine the Tristkopf with the nearby Kröndlhorn, which reaches 2,444 metres and lies just to the northeast. From the Nadernachjoch the marked path continues directly to the Kröndlhorn’s summit. Both peaks share the same catchment of alpine meadows and high-altitude lakes that give the region its quiet charm. The routes are graded moderate, but the total climb from valley bottom to summit takes about two hours of steady walking. On the summit visitors find a broad, grassy dome with a small cross and panoramic views across the Kitzbüheler Alps. To the north the terrain drops steeply into the Brixental valley, while to the south the eye follows the Salzach river towards the Hohe Tauern range. The Neuen Bamberger Hütte below offers simple food and rest before the descent. Many walkers prefer to make a circuit of both the Tristkopf and the Kröndlhorn, returning by the same or different paths.
