Aleitenspitze

The Aleitenspitze is a 2,449-metre peak in the Kitzbühel Alps of Tirol. It stands on the main crest of the range, just west of the slightly lower Schafsiedel. Walkers usually reach it from the New Bamberg Hut, passing three mountain lakes along the way. The route starts in the Kelchsau valley at the Gasthof Wegscheid, a roadside inn at 1,148 metres. From there the path climbs through dense forest beside the Kurzer Grund Ache stream.
The walk gains height quickly to the New Bamberg Hut at 1,756 metres. Behind the hut the route turns west to the Lower Wildalm Lake at 1,937 metres, a small sheet of water popular with anglers. It then skirts the larger Middle Wildalm Lake at 2,028 metres before reaching the Upper Wildalm Lake at 2,324 metres. This is one of the highest lakes in the Kitzbühel Alps, set in a rocky basin below the summit ridge.
From the upper lake the path follows the shore briefly before climbing onto the horseshoe ridge that leads to the Schafsiedel. The final section to the Aleitenspitze follows a rocky but straightforward crest. The return can be made along the same ridge or by dropping back to the Schafsiedel and descending to the hut.
