Spùt Dubh

Spùt Dubh stands in the Highland region of Scotland, where steep mountains and heavy rain shape the land. The falls drop into a narrow gorge carved by the river Brora. Waterfalls are common in the Highlands because the rugged terrain forces rivers to plunge sharply. The name Spùt Dubh comes from the local Gaelic, where ‘spùt’ means a spout and ‘dubh’ means black. The falls are recognised among Scotland’s highest single-drop waterfalls. Their height and the dark rock around them give the place a striking appearance. Visitors reach the falls by following a path along the riverbank. The view from the top shows the water tumbling down the black cliffs. Below, the plunge pool glows with the force of the fall.
