The Ortskapelle Mechters is a small wooden chapel in the village of Mechters, part of Böheimkirchen in Lower Austria. It stands under Denkmalschutz, meaning it is officially recognised as a cultural monument. The chapel is dedicated to Saint Ulrich, Bishop of Augsburg, and belongs to the Catholic parish of Böheimkirchen. Its simple wooden structure contrasts with the rich religious heritage it represents. The chapel is set in a quiet rural landscape, far from busy towns.

The chapel’s history dates back to the 19th century when it was first built. In 1986, it underwent careful renovation to preserve its original character. Inside, the altar features a painted retable depicting the death of the Virgin Mary. Among the oldest items are a baroque Madonna, statues of Saints Florian and Nepomuk from the 18th century, and a copper engraving of a Maria-Hilf image dated 1712. These works reflect the deep religious traditions of the region.

Visitors find a peaceful interior with a single nave and a polygonal apse. The wooden roof and small bell tower add to the chapel’s modest charm. A painted canvas of Saint Joachim hangs on the walls, adding to the spiritual atmosphere. The chapel’s simplicity and historical artefacts make it a quiet place for reflection. Its rural setting, surrounded by farmland, enhances the sense of calm and tradition.
