Dreifaltigkeitskirche

The Dreifaltigkeitskirche stands on a rocky hill about 120 metres above Lavamünd in Carinthia. Built as a thanksgiving for a count’s release from Turkish captivity, it is also called the Kalvarienbergkirche. The church is protected as a listed monument. The choir dates from 1690, the nave was added around 1725. A low onion-domed tower rises above the choir, its bell chamber has twin windows. Inside, a flat barrel vault with stucco ribs and flowers covers the three-bay nave. The west gallery rests on thick round columns, while the single-bay choir ends in a straight wall. The three-storey high altar, made late in the 17th century, carries carved figures of the Holy Trinity and a Sorrowful Mother of God. Side altars show Saint Dismas and Saint Domitian, and the pulpit is decorated with inlaid work. A 1700 processional pole bears a carved Trinity group.
