Stiefelbrunnen
The Stiefelbrunnen is a modern spring fountain in the Petuelpark in Munich. It was created by the Swiss artist Roman Signer and installed in 2004. The fountain is part of a two-part installation called ‘Zwei Paar Stiefel’. One pair of rubber boots stands on a gravel bank beside the Nymphenburg-Biedersteiner Canal. From these boots a jet of water rises seven metres into the air at irregular intervals. The second pair of boots, a few metres away, releases cold air during the summer months. Both installations play with the contrast between water and air. The canal’s gentle flow and the park’s open spaces frame the scene. The artist’s choice of everyday objects turns an ordinary setting into something unexpected. Visitors find a quiet spot beside the canal where they can watch the water fountain or feel the cool air from the boots. The park itself offers wide lawns and paths for walking. Trees and benches provide places to sit and enjoy the unusual sight. The fountain’s playful design attracts both children and adults. It stands as a reminder that art can appear in public places without ceremony.
