Berolinabrunnen

The Berolinabrunnen stands in a small park off Johann-Fitte-Straße in Munich’s Schwabing quarter. It is a drinking-fountain sculpture created by Ernst Andreas Rauch in 1980. The bronze figure depicts Berolina, the female personification of Berlin, whose raised hand splits the rising jet of water. The design recalls the years when Berlin was divided by the wall. Munich placed the fountain in 1980 to mark that shared history. Its water is fresh and safe to drink, offering passers-by a cool sip. Visitors find a quiet green space with benches beside the fountain. The sculpture’s gentle hiss and the splash of water fill the small park. A plaque on the pedestal names the artist and the year. The surrounding plane trees give shade in summer.
