Bauernmuseum Richen

The Bauernmuseum Richen stands in a half-timbered barn from the early 18th century in Richen, a district of Eppingen. The building once belonged to the Princes of Leiningen and served as a wine press before becoming a bull stall with living quarters. In 2000 it opened as a museum of rural life, part of the city’s timber-frame museum network. The museum shows how villagers lived and worked. A reconstructed farmhouse kitchen, living and sleeping rooms display everyday objects. Nearby are workshops for shoemakers and painters, along with a fully relocated village smithy. A cider cellar and a modern orchard trail add to the exhibits. Visitors walk through rooms filled with ploughs, harnesses and tools. The smithy’s anvil and bellows remain in place. Seasonal markets and courses bring the past to life. The orchard trail leads through old fruit trees, explaining traditional cultivation.
