Gallions Reach DLR station

Gallions Reach station stands on the Docklands Light Railway’s Beckton branch in east London’s North Woolwich area. It sits between Cyprus and Beckton stations, close to the Royal Albert Dock and recent residential developments. The station is in fare zone three and marks the eastern end of the DLR, though Beckton station lies slightly to the west. The station opened in 1994 with the Beckton extension, when the surrounding land was still brownfield from the old Beckton Gas Works. Ridership grew slowly at first, but increased after the University of East London’s Docklands Campus and Gallions Reach Shopping Park opened in the early 2000s. By 2019, annual passenger numbers reached 1.42 million, supported by new homes around the dock. Plans for a DLR extension to Dagenham Dock and an East London Transit route were later cancelled. The station has two platforms that handle twelve trains per hour off-peak, rising to sixteen during peak times. Trains run to Canning Town and Tower Gateway, and to Beckton depot. Local buses 129, 262, 366 and the night route N551 stop nearby. A proposed DLR extension to Thamesmead would diverge just past Gallions Reach, heading east past Beckton depot before reaching Beckton Riverside.
