Wasserburg Kottspiel

The Wasserburg Kottspiel stands in a quiet loop of the River Bühler just north of Kottspiel, a hamlet belonging to Bühlertann in the Schwäbisch Hall district. It was built in the 13th century by the local lords and abandoned again in the mid-14th century. Today only faint traces remain, but the site still shows the rectangular hollow left by the vanished buildings. The hollow measures about fifty metres across and is slightly longer from north to south. Its inner slopes rise gently except on the western side where they flatten out. A low embankment, less than a metre high, runs along the eastern edge while the centre holds a low mound. The ground rises and falls by no more than two metres across the whole area. Visitors walk a grassy farm track that circles the site on the east and north sides. A row of old fruit trees, now scattered and half-grown, marks the outline of the vanished walls. The rest of the ground is kept as meadow, giving the place a peaceful, rural feel.
